Midtronics Receives Patent for inGEN™ In-Vehicle Battery Monitoring System

Willowbrook, IL. – July 11, 2002: Midtronics announced the granting of a new patent, U.S. #6,392,414, related to inGEN, their vehicle-integrated battery monitoring system. The patent covers a ground-breaking method for measuring a vehicle battery’s state-of-health in real-time while vehicle is operating. The method is based on Midtronics’ Conductance Technology and over 17 years of automotive battery testing research and development.

“Our goal with inGEN is to help the OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers redefine the way vehicle power systems are managed”, said Michael Cox, director of Midtronics’ OEM Business Unit. “This patent represents an additional step in achieving accurate energy and battery management systems”, Cox added.

inGEN uses interactive battery-analysis and conductance testing to achieve battery diagnostics without the use of a battery-design table data or mapping chart, techniques that are vulnerable to error as the battery ages and changes. In addition, inGEN measurements are not susceptible to engine noise, surface charge, or impedances in the charging system.

This patent represents Midtronics’ sixty-fifth patent regarding battery testing, monitoring and charging, twelve (12) of which correspond directly to inGEN battery management system (BMS) technology.
